Verlee E. Hiner
Verlee E. Hiner, 70, of Central City, Iowa, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's. Visitation: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 3855 Katz Dr., Marion, Iowa 52302. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jack Ray. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery, Central City.
Verlee was born on Dec. 1, 1948, the daughter of Loren and Romona (Moyer) Port. She married Jerry Hiner on April 8, 1966, in Tipton. Verlee was a member of Faith Christian Fellowship. She was an avid gardener. Verlee was a Springville Oriole fan and enjoyed attending her granddaughters' sporting events. She had a servant heart and never met a stranger. She dedicated her life to serving her Lord, family, friends and community.
Verlee is survived by her husband, Jerry of Central City; children, Stacey (Bill) Matus of Central City and Wade (Lisa) Hiner of Marion; five granddaughters, Hope (Justin) Brown, Sarah and Grace Matus and Lauren and Emily Hiner; great-grandson, Will Brown; siblings, Linda (Bill) Ham, Marilyn (Wayne) Carpenter, Jackie (Rex) Bonebrake, Jeff Port and Mark (Marie) Port; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Maurice; and sister, Darlyce.
The family desires no flowers or plants. They wish that memorials be directed to The Ghosh Center, 1951 51st St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Again, please no flowers.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's and The Ghosh Center for the compassionate and professional care provided to Verlee.
