The Rev. Bruce Dahlem

Cedar Rapids

The Rev. Bruce Richard Dahlem, 74, completed his journey to join our Heavenly Father on April 1, 2018. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
What he treasured most in this world was his family, including his loving wife of 49 years, Carolyn; children, Jennifer (Brien) Whitford, Rick (Leigh) Dahlem, Chad (Heidi) Dahlem and Timothy Dahlem; nine grandchildren, Savannah, Brookelyn, Kennedey and Charleigh Whitford, Rachel and Morgan Dahlem and Samuel, Elijah and Caroline Dahlem; his siblings, Phil Dahlem and Carol Neiers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike.
Bruce was born Jan. 6, 1944, in Cascade, Iowa, to Paul and Lorraine (Weigand) Dahlem. Bruce served honorably in the Navy from 1963 to 1965. After returning from military service, Bruce joined the family run Cascade Feed Co. in Cascade. He later became ordained with The Open Door Church in Cedar Rapids. He spent the rest of his life in the service of the Lord, counseling people through his nonprofit ministry, Living Word Ministries. He helped numerous people through marriage and addiction problems. He himself celebrated 40-plus years of sobriety.
He enjoyed waterskiing, running, biking, soaking in the sun and, above all, leading others to the Lord.
He will be remembered most for his open heart, welcoming soul, the grace with which he lived his life, and the unconditional love he gave to all his immediate and extended family members.
We will miss you Dad and see you again in heaven.
Memorials may be directed to Living Word Ministries.
