Ronald Leo Kern
Ronald Leo Kern, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Jan. 20, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Cedar Hills Community Church in Cedar Rapids.
His body was donated to the Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City.
Ron is survived by his wife, Maureen Kern; children, Ronda Kern, Renee Wohlert and Randy Kern; and sisters, Janet Wagner and Beth Lamb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Leo Kern; and sisters, Maryland Suchy and Connie Linder.
Ronald Leo Kern was born to Leo and Lucille Kern on Aug. 29, 1937. He graduated from Belle Blaine High School, where he was involved in sports. He completed a four-year degree at Simpson College. His occupation was a salesman. He married Maureen Van Horbeck on May 4, 1957. He was the proud father of three children, Ronda, Randy and Renee. He was involved full-time in all of their activities. Left to remember him as a wonderful grandfather are Sydney, Whitney and Hallie. Ron's greatest joy was his granddaughters. He treasured his time involved in all sports and his cabin at Rainbow Lake. His impersonation of Hayden Fry led to many
well-known adventures. Ron lived his life to the fullest, only to be impaired by dementia and followed by a massive stroke.
