Powell, Lucille
Lucille Powell, 97, of the Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, following a short illness. At Lucille's request, there will be no visitation nor service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include her sister, Lenora Mamola of Davis, Ill.; niece, Elsie Thompson and nephew, Robert Vrba, both of Cedar Rapids; and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack Powell, who died March 15, 2004; her parents; brothers, William, Joseph and Godfrey Toman; and sisters, Agnes Dvorak and Libbie Vrba.
Lucille was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Cedar Rapids to Joseph and Agnes Toman. Lucille married Jack Powell on Oct. 10, 1933 in Galena, Ill. Lucille worked at Collins Radio for over 26 years, was a 50-year member of No. 184 Order of the Eastern Star, Cedar Chapter.
Jack and Lucille made their home in Cedar Rapids until they retired, then moved to Harpers Ferry, Iowa. After returning to Cedar Rapids in 1981, they did a lot of volunteering. Lucille enjoyed knitting, tatting and sewing.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
