Nelda Jean Hamer, 83,
of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at
the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Celebration
of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery.
Nelda was born Nov. 7, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Paul and Nellie (Kadera) Hamer. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Roosevelt High School, Class of 1953. She worked for many years at the Linn County Clerk's Office. She later worked as a legal secretary for Life Investors and Aegon, from where she later retired. Nelda enjoyed cross stitch, traveling, reading, jigsaw puzzles, collecting salt and pepper shakers, watching the eagles, bowling and spending time with her many friends and family. She was a longtime member of St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Nelda is survived by her sister, Alma McNamara of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lenard Hamer; her sister, Doris Moyer; a nephew, Thomas McNamara; a great-nephew, Joseph Mann; and lifelong friend, Delores Thomas.
