Iowa City
On Jan. 3, 2023, our family lost our guiding light, Dominique Reneau Blank, age 57, in Iowa City. The center of our family, she was a mother, daughter, wife and best friend. Her amazing life journey inspired everyone she touched. Born in Tucson, Ariz., on June 6, 1965, she graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle, Wash., and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1987.
Dominique’s Air Force career included tours of duty in Germany, Italy, the United States and Japan. She was a member of an expeditionary air traffic command overseeing NATO support of the former Yugoslavia. Later, she would spend a tour as a Recruiter and then a Public Affairs Officer. After her retirement, she moved with her family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was employed at Rockwell Collins. During this period, she completed her master’s degree and became a certified public school substitute teacher. In addition, she was a valued member of the Cedar Rapids City Planning Commission and was always on the side of green spaces and support of neighborhoods.
She lovingly moved to Iowa City to support her three children, who all had been accepted into the University of Iowa. She spent many days coordinating class schedules, walking with her kids around campus and arranging family meet ups for lunch on campus. She also took a position working at the University as a Test Center Proctor and SAT/ACT Test Administrator.
She gifted her lifelong enjoyment of travel to her family, coordinating trips around the country and the world. She taught our children to navigate their way through airports, foreign countries, and any difficulties life may throw their way. She showed us the beauty of her French heritage across several lovely trips to Paris and the French countryside. She and her family celebrated each of her
children's
’ graduations with delightful trips touring the Venetian architecture and Roman ruins of Italy and the beautiful nature of Scotland and Ireland. Because of these special moments and cherished memories, Dominique wished her final resting place to be upon the beautiful peak of Ben Lomond, in the highlands of Scotland.
Her greatest gift may have been that a day did not pass without her seeing and sharing the beauty of life with everyone. She was an ardent supporter of all of our dreams and goals and she worked endlessly to help us each achieve them. She loved engaging each of us in our individual interests and taking an active, loving role in our lives. She was excited for our family’s future, our coming journeys and becoming a grandmother.
She leaves behind so many people who loved her: her mother, Micheline (Seminet); her father, Charles (Ferrell); her siblings: Luc, Elizabeth and Brigette; her husband, Joseph and her children, Alexander, Amanda and Calista.
While our sorrow is deep, we would like to invite those who knew her to come to a celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at the Celebration Farm in Iowa City from 1 to 4 p.m., with recollections and military honors starting at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be shared at www.lensingfuneral.com.
