Michael Kelly

Michael Aloysius Kelly died on Nov. 4, 2017, of Lewy Body Dementia at home in Casa Grande, Ariz.
The son of John Leland Kelly and Mae Barker, he was born on Nov. 11, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1957, which was the last graduating class of the school. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 27, 1957. After basic training, he was released from active duty to the Army Reserve for the next seven years and two months to fulfill his obligation. Mike was honorably discharged on Feb. 28, 1965. During that time, he was united in marriage to Dixie Diann Clark on July 15, 1959, and two sons were born, Michael George Kelly and Tim Patrick Kelly. Dixie Kelly died on Sept. 1, 1992.
Mike and Dixie started Kelly Security Co. in Cedar Rapids and Naples, Fla. Mike also helped start and was involved in SaPaDaPaSo, the St. Patrick's Day celebration, for many years.
Mike married Mary Ann Adams on Dec. 22, 1995. They lived in Cedar Rapids until moving to Casa Grande, Ariz., in August 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dixie; and brother, William (Bill) Kelly.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his sons, Mike and Tim; his only grandchild, Emma Jean Gatewood; and a brother, Pat (Mary) of Des Moines, along with several nieces and nephews.
He also is survived by six stepchildren: Lori (Fran) Goedken, Les Adams, Mike (Jacque) Adams, Mark Adams and Chelsea Ancheta, Terry (Tiffany) Adams and Jim (Kim) Adams; 10 stepgrandchildren: Tyler Adams, Megan Cocking, Tiffany Goedken, Lauren, Lizzie, Drew, Sam, Paige, Alex and Will Adams; and Thomas and Nicholas Beevers, who thought of him as Grandpa. "Tis a Blessing," as Mike would say.
Celebration of Life Mass will be on Nov. 29, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will take place at a later date as Mike's body was donated to Research for Life in Phoenix, Ariz.
An Irish social gathering will be held at Dublin City Pub at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29.
