Melvin Cary Vavricek, 74, of Center Point, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center from complications from a motorcycle accident in July. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will
be in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Brosh Chapel.
Melvin was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Eleanor (Lorence) Vavricek. He graduated from Troy Mills High School, Class of 1962. He worked for many years at Nash Finch and as an
over-the-road driver. Melvin was united in marriage to Tammy Bachus on Aug. 2, 1986, in Bennett. Melvin and Tammy farmed for many years together in the Center Point area. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, farming, and most of all spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his wife of over 32 years, Tammy; his children, Rod (Brandy) Vavricek of Monticello, Cary Vavricek of Cedar Rapids, Nick Vavricek of Leland, N.C., Alicia (Klint) Davis of Atkins and Tyler Vavricek of Center Point; his 11 grandchildren; his one great-grandchild; his sister, Mardene (Larry) Hinton of Kankakee, Ill.; as well as his dogs, Sissy and Bandit.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Leah Christensen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Troy Mills Fire & Rescue or Center Point Ambulance in his name.
