Mayola Ione (Oliphant) Pollet
Mayola Ione (Oliphant) Pollet, 95, of Solon, Iowa, peacefully joined our Lord on Monday, Oct. 1, 2018. She was surrounded by her family at her residence in the Solon Nursing Care Center. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, followed by graveside services.
Mayola was born May 28, 1923, at Jesup, Buchanan County, Iowa. She was the seventh of 13 children of Cecil Glen Oliphant and Sarah Lucinda (Betzer) Oliphant. Mayola was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mayola married Delbert F. Pollet on Dec. 27, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. Together, they raised their children in the Cedar Rapids area.
Mayola enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, playing Scrabble, cards, games and visiting with company. Mayola was known to many as Nanny. Over the years, she opened her home to many children, whom she loved. She remained young at heart by sharing her love especially with young children. A true Christian, Mayola is now resting in the presence of her Lord and Savior. God has another angel to protect us.
Survivors include her sons, Keith (Jan) Pollet of Mound Ridge, Kan., Darrel Pollet, North Liberty, Iowa, and Mike Pollet, Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Sharon (John) Cordes, Durango, Colo.; her grandsons, Patrick (Sandra) Kayser, Tennessee, and Jonathan (Melanie) Cordes, Colorado; great-grandsons, Keenan and Garrett Kayser, Tennessee, and Liam Cordes, Colorado; siblings, Robert Oliphant, Colorado, and Willa Richey, Maryland; sister-in-law, Dorthy Beers, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Richard Pollet, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; her parents; children, Brett Pollet and Diane Pollet, who died in infancy; and siblings, Mike, Alger, Glen, Wayne, Darrel, Ronnie, DeVee Ashlock, Romona Hartley and Alice Frazer.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Iowa City Hospice staff and the nurses and caretakers at Solon Nursing Center for all the loving care given to Mayola in the days leading up to her passing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Camp Courageous or a charity of your choice in Mayola's name.
