Mary Jeanette Chute passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, in Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born to Herbert Franklin and Genevieve Marie (Zweck) Carlson on July 5, 1928, in Daugherty, Iowa. On June 3, 1947, Mary married Robert J. "Pete" Chute, her loving husband, who preceded her in death in Naples, Fla.
She had a passion for golf and had been a member of the Glades Country Club in Naples and Indian Creek Country Club in Marion. Mary also was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion, and she enjoyed music, reading and painting.
More than anything, she loved time spent with her large family. Her husband of 68 years affectionately called her "Squirt" because of her diminutive stature, but she lived a high-spirited and spunky life.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Marcia (Jim) Hanson of Marshalltown, Mindy (Rick) Jost of Des Moines and Michelle (Steve) Thornburg of Bettendorf; four sons, Michael (Sara) of Riverview, Fla., Mark (Sheryl) of Chelsea and Martin (Awilda) and Matthew (Tracie), both of Marion; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Donald, and a sister, Dorothy Plath.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roger and Joe; a daughter, Mary Ann; a son, Merle Franklin; and a grandson, Ryan Michael.
A memorial service for Mary and Pete will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion. The family will greet guests at 9:30 a.m. at the church. After the service, the family will attend a private burial and return to the church to host lunch, laughter and love with visitors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the American Cancer Society.
