Marjorie "Marge" E.
Meyer, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at UnityPoint Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer. Services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include four sons, Bruce (Kirsten) of Rolling Bay, Wash., Damon (Holly) and Todd (Diana) of Marion, and Kevin (Melanie) of Cedar Rapids; four brothers, Ervin (Ila) Breon, Kenneth (Jackie) Breon and Ross Breon, all of Hedrick, and Max (Norine) Breon of San Antonio, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Marge was born on Feb. 25, 1938, on the family farm in Hedrick, the daughter of Willis and Edna (Wimpsett) Breon. She married Robert C. Meyer on March 27, 1965, in Hedrick. Marge graduated from Hedrick High School in 1955 before being accepted to Parsons College in Fairfield, where she majored in English and history, graduating in 1959. After graduating, she thought she was too young to teach high school so she moved to Kansas City and enrolled in airline school, eventually winding up in Chicago working for North Central Airlines. Marge ended up returning to Iowa to teach in Calamus. It was there she met her husband, Bob, and settled in Lowden until 1970. They moved to Cedar Rapids and, in 1973, Marge started her career with the Cedar Rapids public schools. She substituted for several years, mainly at Harding Junior High, where she ended up working as a media specialist, retiring in 2004.
Marge forever will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
