Marie Finch

Cedar Rapids

Marie Finch, 95, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Having wished to remain in her own home throughout her life, her last moments awake occurred the previous Saturday when she was in company of family and she remained in her home until Tuesday, finally dying in the presence of family the very next day.
A lifelong resident of the Midwest, Marie was born Jan. 7, 1923, and was the daughter of Charles and Stella Justice. She was one
of four children and was united in marriage to Oren Finch and together they raised two children, Donna and Ted.
Throughout her life, Marie enjoyed visiting with family, traveling, reading, playing games, crossword puzzles and (certainly most of all) the companionship of her dogs. Personal highlights included traveling to all 50 states, building a large family and maintaining a high level of independence throughout her long life. She was an incredibly kind, funny and generous person who never expected a lot, but always was there to listen and help when needed. Being a survivor of the Depression coupled with her long career in caring for others in hospitals, she was often the perfect person to talk with to put things in perspective and get you laughing when it was originally the furthest thing from your mind.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Oren; daughter, Donna; three siblings, Dale, Wayne and Myrna; and great-grandson, Alex.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Mary; five grandchildren, Trisha, Kristi, Aaron, Lance and Blake; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and additional extended family.
She will be missed by all who knew her, as they all loved her dearly.
Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, at
1 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home, 714 First St., Traer, Iowa, 50675, with a visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
