Lyle Sannes Sr.
Lyle Jerome Sannes Sr., 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa, due to complications from COPD
and COVID-19. Due to the circumstances of the ongoing pandemic, no public visitation will be held and a private funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Lyle under "photos and videos or media," starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. All family members are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Lyle was born June 8, 1934, in Park River, N.D., the son of Oliver and Mabel (Johnson) Sannes. He attended school in Grand Forks, N.D., and Ephrata, Wash., before returning to Fargo, N.D. Lyle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Lyle was united in marriage to Helen Dora Counter in St. Cloud, Minn.. He was employed by Nash Finch Co. for over 30 years before retiring in 1996.
Lyle was a man with tremendous faith, knew the best was yet to come, and was a member of the Marion Methodist Church. He had a zest for life, a contagious smile and made friends everywhere he went. Lyle enjoyed spiritual writing, bowling, golfing, woodworking and helping anyone with a project. He was known as the "Road Dog" for all of the miles he traveled for work, hunting and fishing.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his five daughters, Lana (Roger) Haddy of Phoenix, Ariz., Lynda (Scott) Stephens of Marion, Laurie (Jon) Symonds of Lone Tree, Colo., Lisa (George) Trice of Grove City, Ohio, and Darlene (Randy) Maurerman of Puyallup, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, Ethan Haddy, Spencer Stephens, Alex Gothard, Corey Symonds, Britney Symonds, Brody Symonds, Cody Symonds, Israel Trice, Aria Trice and Kara Davidson; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Helen Sannes; and his son, Lyle J. Sannes, Jr.
Memorials in Lyle's memory may be directed to the Marion Methodist Church designated to the kid's summer church camp program at 5050 REC Dr., Marion, IA 52302.
