Linda Rae Lear was born Feb. 9, 1938, to E. Raymond and Frances (Maynard) Lear, in Story City, Iowa. Linda grew up, the youngest of four sisters, moving from Jewell, Iowa, where her dad had a small dairy farm to Webster City, Iowa, after he was appointed sheriff of Hamilton County.
She started her collegiate days at St. Olaf College before transferring to the University of Iowa, where she received a degree in nursing in 1960; soon after, Linda met her future husband, Richard W. Fincham. They were married Aug. 12, 1961, and settled in Iowa City.
Linda was active in her University Heights community and enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors; quite often hosting impromptu gatherings with those who were passing by.
Linda was known for her kindness, generosity and interest in the lives of others. She enjoyed her Friday morning coffee group and was an active member of several bridge groups, PEO chapter KQ, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church along with numerous other activities.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Nancy Fincham and son, Ben (Heidi) Fincham, both of Iowa City and son, David Fincham of Helena, Mont.; three granddaughters, Madeline and Grace of Iowa City and Annalinda of Helena, Mont.; and sister, Christine Bening of Des Moines.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Fincham; and her sisters, Sarah Bougie and Martha Larson.
A service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 140 Gathering Place Lane, Iowa City, on June 23, at 5 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow. Linda will join Dick in a private family event at a later date.
