Leonard Francis Jandik

Leonard Francis Jandik, 87, of Lakeville, Minn., formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at the Fountains at Hosanna in Lakeville, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a parish vigil service will begin at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Leonard was born on Feb. 12, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Godfrey and Mamie (Shimek) Jandik. He attended St. Ludmila Grade School and was a 1949 graduate of Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. After graduation, Leonard was employed at LeFebure Corp. until his retirement in 1985. On Sept. 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joyce Esther Sampica. Leonard took a leave from LeFebure to enlist in the U.S. Navy and served honorably from 1951 to 1955. For more than 60 years, he was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion with his wife, Joyce.
Leonard was first and foremost a family man. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always dedicated to his family. Leonard's steadfast and loving support and commitment were a foundation for his entire family. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter. Leonard was well known in the area for his award-winning vegetables, melons, apples, pears and grapes and, especially, his homemade wine. Leonard enjoyed sharing them with his family and friends the most. He always gave "the best ones" away! Leonard was proud of the fruits of his efforts and wanted his friends to enjoy his "best" with him.
When Leonard wasn't gardening, he was fishing. Together with his wife, Leonard and Joyce were avid walleye fishermen, spending many weeks in the spring in Wisconsin and Minnesota, catching their limit. They also loved to fish in local ponds for crappies and blue gill. Their entire family enjoyed fish and macaroni and cheese dinners made with the "catch of the day"!
Leonard was a man of honor, truth, commitment and, most importantly, love. He will be greatly missed and always will be loved.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Jandik of Lakeville, Minn.; son, Dennis D. (Sandra) Jandik of Eagan, Minn.; three grandchildren, Gregory T. (Varya) of St. Paul, Minn., Sarah A. (Matthew) Hiniker of Roberts, Wis., and Andrew M. (Taylor) Jandik of Lakeville, Minn.; and one great-granddaughter, Landyn Jo Jandik.
Leonard was preceded into eternal life by his parents; two brothers, Stanley Jandik and Jerome Jandik; and one sister, Dorothy Luzum.
Memorials may be directed in Leonard's memory to Kidneeds, c/o Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, 324 Third St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
