Lawrence Willey, 91, of Anamosa, formerly of Wyoming, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, at the Anamosa Care Center.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church before the service. Burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery. Lahey and Dawson Funeral Services will be assisting the family at this time.
Lawrence was born on Sept. 15, 1926, in Jackson County, Iowa, to Frank and Sophia (Weidemann) Willey. He attended Calamus High School. He married Alberta Schmidt on June 23, 1948, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming in a double wedding with Alberta's sister, Lorraine (Donald) Leinen. He worked as a farmer and mechanic, and mowed Little Bear Country Club for 12 years.
He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. He was on the Midland school board and a member of the Little Bear Country Club. He loved golfing and dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Alberta; three children, Linda (Daryl) Moenk of Troy Mills, Mark (RoAnne) Willey of Center Junction and Jan (Jan Hendersen) Willey of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five sisters-in-law, Verna Parham, Marilyn Schmidt, Jean Schmidt, Nadine Willey and Lola Severin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Zion American Lutheran Church in his honor.
