Larry Rutt, 81, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at
his home in Iowa City surrounded by family.
Private family graveside services will be held at Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, Iowa. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Larry was born May 13, 1939, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Irene "Marie" Allen Rutt. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and worked for PSC Distribution in Iowa City for 57 years, retiring in 2018. Larry married Carol Wasson on June 1, 1957, in North Liberty, Iowa.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. On a warm sunny day, you could find him traveling a country road looking at cornfields or sitting in his yard with his neighborhood friends.
Larry enjoyed people and people enjoyed him for his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family; Wrigley, his beagle companion; his life-long friends, Fairmeadows neighbors, Hy-Vee Coffee Club and his PSC family.
Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Survivors include his son, Greg Rutt (Deb Cox) of North Liberty, Iowa; daughters, Kristen Rutt (Eddie McKinley) of Iowa City, Lisa Murphy (Craig) of Washington, Iowa, and Kathy Rutt (Jeff Davis) of Iowa City; brother, Lavon Rutt (Nancy) of Iowa City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, James "Skip" (Myrna) Sherlock of Iowa City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Jean) Rutt and James (Thelma) Rutt.
