Larry Hines

Port Byron, Ill.

Larry Wayne Hines, 80, of Port Byron, Ill., went home with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. There will be a memorial/celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, Ill. Larry donated his body to Science Care.
Larry was born Sept. 19, 1937, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Ray and Lydia (Thibadeau) Hines. He was a 1955 graduate of Chelsea High School, Chelsea, Iowa. He married Cynthia Dee Sexton on Jan. 25, 1958, in Bonaparte.
Larry worked for various trucking companies throughout his career. He retired from Standard Forwarding Trucking Co. after 23 years of service. Larry loved serving the Lord and was very active throughout his life in his church service and was always looking for an opportunity to share the gospel.
He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He raised and raced pigeons and had a love for birds. Other hobbies included golfing, reading, traveling and spending time with his friends and family who adored him. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Larry and his wife loved spending the winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. At 67 years of age, he lost his eye sight due to central serous retinopathy. In 2005, he received his faithful and beloved guide dog, Pitney.
He was a member of the Saddle Club of Lamont, Mississippi Valley Pigeon Club and National Federation of the Blind Illinois Chapter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Cynthia; children, Brad (JoAnn), Cedar Rapids, Kirk (Cheri), Port Austin, Mich., Michelle (Leo) Foley, Bettendorf, Larry (Melissa), Marlette, Mich., and Pamela (Toby) Eiter, Hayden, Idaho; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three on the way; siblings, Lyle (Joy), LuElla (Dale) Johnson, Linda (Don) Morrow, Lillian "Kate" (Bill) Grieder, LaDonna (John) Zhorne and Monica (Wendell) Jacobi; aunts, Dorothy Davis and Betty Cavenaugh; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lowell.
