John was born on Nov. 7, 1932, to Louis and Clara Pohlmann in Vinton. John met the love of his life, Bertha, while serving in the Marine Corps, and they were joined in holy matrimony on Nov. 8, 1953. He was dedicated to God and his family. He spent many years as the janitor of Vinton High School and had his own painting business. For John, strangers were just friends he hadn't met yet, and he frequently could be found giving people the business.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He lived with Parkinson's for over 14 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bertha; sons, Edward, Steven and Mark; grandchildren, Amy (Carey) Bohannan, Mary Pohlmann, Tonia (Owen) Catron, David (Tiffany) Pohlmann, Jennifer (Travis) Murray, Steven (Tina) Goodenbour, Melissa Aschen, Marte Pohlmann and Morgan Pohlmann; great-grandchildren, Max, Michael, Erin, Breanna, Brittany, Alicha, Laton, Siera, Harley, Dakota, Stefany, Katie and Kileen; siblings, Duane (Elaine) Pohlmann, Dorothy Kohler and Jeanette Klingensmith; and brother-in-law, Andy Motto. He additionally is survived by many other loved ones.
John was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike; daughter, Vicki Lynn; and siblings, Richard and Rosemary.
John will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. The family would like to welcome those who wish to pay their respects to attend the visitation or service.
