JOHN H. LIND
Iowa City

John H. Lind of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.
He was born in Davenport, Iowa, Nov. 8, 1932. He attended Central Jr. High, Iowa City High, and then Iowa State where he received his architecture degree. He held the position of Architect in Residence at UIHC from 1957-1962. He and his college roommate, Dick Hansen, started HLM design firm in Iowa City in 1962. The firm opened offices from coast to coast where they focused on hospital and health care design for the next 30+ years. During his career, he became honored as a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects.
John's most important things in life were his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue (Sutherland); and their three children, Greg Lind (Monica Tranel) from Missoula, Mont., Lauren Lind (Mike Gifford) of Center Point, Iowa, and Eric Lind of Tempe, Ariz. Sue and John have six grandchildren, Zara, Mia and Clara of Missoula, Mont., Abbey Lind (Ezra Torres) of Draper, Utah, Elliot Lawrence of Waukee, Iowa, Connor Gifford of Des Moines, Gus Gifford of Austin, Texas, Grayson Gifford of Chicago and Alea Lind of Tempe, Ariz. John is also survived by a brother, Dick Lind (Sue Chudwick) of Venice, Fla.; a sister, Sally Wilson of Bramelton, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Morrison (Sutherland) of San Diego, Calif.
John and Sue had a lifetime of adventures together. They have many amazing memories of years traveling with family, their children and grandchildren and many friends. Having new experiences and learning new things, especially with loved ones, was their joy.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the wonderful people at Iowa City Hospice and the amazing caregivers at Country View in North Liberty. They all helped ease this journey.
