Joan Diane Grissel, 69, of Kearney, Mo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Joan was born on Dec. 11, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William and JoAnn (Hilton) Vogel. She earned an associate's degree in early childhood education from Kirkwood Community College. Joan was united in marriage to Joseph Grissel Sr. on Sept. 30, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Joan enjoyed shopping, going to movies, playing card games and was a fantastic cook and baker. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and she left us with many, many happy memories. She loved her family more than anything else. Joan was a pillar of strength to family and friends. She loved hard and was loved equally in return. Joan will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her husband, Joseph Grissel Sr., of Camdenton, Mo., two children, Holly Guetzloff of Huntington, W.V., and Joe Grissel Jr., of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Daun, JP III (fiancee, Macaylah), Tommy, Abby, Nick, Audrey, Ellie, Livian and Farrah; one great-grandchild, Joe IV; three siblings, Sharon (Rick) Huston of Smithville, Mo., Pam Ulch of Kearney, Mo., and and Doug (Wendy) Vogel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a niece, Dana (Brian) Miller; nephews, Jason (Becky) Huston, Will (Megan) Ulch, Trevor (Pujeeta) Dye, Sean (Jacquelyn) Dye and Brett (Ashley) Vogel; and many loving extended family members and friends.
She was preceded by her parents, and a sister, Linda Dye.
