Jerry Alvin Wimer


Jerry Alvin Wimer, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Reinbeck on Jan. 17, 2018. A visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck, with Pastor Terry Plocher officiating. Inurnment will take place at Friend's Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa, at 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous. French-Hand Funeral Home is taking care of Jerry and his family. Jerry Alvin Wimer, the son of Alvin and Louise (Hargrave) Wimer, was born on July 13, 1932, in New Sharon, Iowa. Jerry attended school in New Sharon, graduating with the class of 1950. Jerry was united in marriage to Eleanor Janet Kading on March 9, 1952, in Casey, Iowa. Jerry worked as an operating engineer for Bowkers Inc. and Wiley Construction in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jerry went on to be an over-the-road truck driver for RFK Inc., based out of Cedar Rapids, and Werner Enterprises, based out of Omaha, Neb. After retiring from trucking, Jerry delivered prescriptions for A Avenue Pharmacy. Jerry later moved to Reinbeck and worked for Peterson Construction Inc., driving a dump truck. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed camping. Jerry enjoyed meeting new people, and could carry on a conversation with a complete stranger as if they had been lifelong friends.
Jerry is survived by his significant other, Fran Davis of Reinbeck; children, Steven (Carla) Wimer of Toddville, Iowa, Jeffrey (Sherry) Wimer of Texas, Julie Wimer of Center Point, Iowa, Deb (Mark) Oleson of Reinbeck, Doug (Pam) Davis of Reinbeck, Dru (Greg) Bridges of Weatherford, Texas, and Dallas (Betty) Davis of Albia, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Louise; wife, Eleanor; sons, Allen and David; and brother, Benny.
