Jason G. Hillman, 51, of rural Essex, Iowa, and formerly of South English, Iowa, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at his home. A Celebration of Life memorial service for Jason was held on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah, with Pastor Jerry Wagoner officiating. The family greeted relatives and friends with visitation prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment took place in the Essex Cemetery. Memorials are being directed to the North Keokuk County Fire Department or to the Clarinda Lutheran School in Jason's name.
Jason Gregory Hillman, son of David Michael and Genevera Marlene (Wagoner) Hillman, was born on Jan. 19, 1971, in Fairfield, Iowa. He unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at his rural Essex, Iowa, home at the age of 51 years, 9 months, 10 days.
Most of Jason's life was spent in the South English, Iowa area. Jason graduated from English Valley High School in North English, Iowa, with the Class of 1989. He attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa in 1993. Jason was a member of the North Keokuk County Fire Department. He worked at Kinze Manufacturing following high school. He left there and pursued a career in autobody mechanics, working at Gretter Motor Company until 2014, when he relocated to Essex to farm.
He enjoyed anything with wheels, playing in the dirt, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Preceding Jason in death were his father, David Hillman; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Doris Hillman; and maternal grandparents, Floyd and Mildred Wagoner.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Genny Hillman of Essex, Iowa; sister, Melanie (Ryan) Malloy of Williamsburg, Iowa; niece, Blaire Malloy of Williamsburg, Iowa; several uncles and aunts; cousins; and a loyal crew of friends from South English, Iowa.
