Jane Ann Suiter, 74, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with an additional visitation one hour prior to service. The Rev. David O’Connor will officiate.
Jane was born on June 21, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Luella (Austin) Schneider. She was a 1966 graduate of Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, Iowa, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, and master’s degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jane was united in marriage to James “Jim” Suiter. To this union two sons were born, Jeremy and Jonathan. Jane started as a substitute teacher until she and Jim later divorced. Then she began working full time as a teacher for Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, where she coached freshman volleyball and refereed many volleyball games. Jane worked part-time at K’s Merchandise, and she also ran Volley’s during the summers. Upon her retirement from teaching, Jane enjoyed being an Adjunct instructor at Kirkwood Community College, where she could share her knowledge in technology. She volunteered at and was the current President of the Linn Community Food Bank. Jane enjoyed playing golf, and even had a hole-in-one at St. Andrews Golf Course on Sept. 7, 2021. She loved traveling, trivia, playing cards and “Granny Basketball.” Jane loved spending time with her friends and family, especially attending her grandchildren’s school events. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jane is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Jeremy (Jamie) Suiter of Van Horne, Iowa, and Jonathan (Bonnie Hahn) Suiter of Marion; three grandchildren, Brayden, Hailey and Taylor; brother, Tom (Luann) Schneider; and two grand-puppies, Rook and Dashiell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Luella Schneider.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane’s memory may be made to the Linn Community Food Bank at 310 Fifth St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
