James Robert Sherlock II, 76, better known as “Sharkey”, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held between 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Stone Creek Golf Club clubhouse in Williamsburg (812 Long St, Williamsburg, IA 52361). Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Illinois.
Jim was born March 15, 1946, in South Side Chicago, Ill., the son of James Robert and Nora (McCarthy) Sherlock. He was a 1964 graduate of Brother Rice High School in Chicago and received his degree from St. Ambrose University. Jim served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.
For the majority of his adult life, Jim lived in Williamsburg, Iowa, where he owned and operated several businesses. Jim will be remembered for his carefree approach to life and his unmatched gift of storytelling. He greeted most everyone with a “God love ya, kid” and was never without a joke or magic trick to share.
Jim is survived by his children, Jim (Stacey) Sherlock Jr. of Iowa City, Molly (Jeff) Greiner and Katie (Rich) Fetcho, both of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Ella, Jameson, and Pauline Sherlock, Kara, Kallie and Cole Greiner, and Chloe and Landon Fetcho; two sisters, Dolores (Tom) Mulkerin and Carol Risser; and his beloved nephews, nieces and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.
