Gerald "Jerry" Langfitt

Cedar Rapids

Gerald "Jerry" C. Langfitt, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at UnityPoint Hospital. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home amd after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Jerry is survived by two daughters, Kimm (Jeff) Unkrich of Cedar Rapids and Kristy (Greg) McCusker of Smyrna, Del.; four grandchildren, Breanne and Janelle Unkrich of Palo and Kylie and Sean McCusker of Smyrna; a great-grandson, Cohen Unkrich of Palo; and a sister, Sharon (Carl) Duggan of Cedar Rapids.
Jerry was born June 4, 1940, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Raymond and Noreene Fontaine Langfitt. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Zenisek, in 1961 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Karen preceded him in death in June 2016.
Jerry served with the aviation section of the Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 and was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C., and Cuba with VMA225. Jerry also served on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier. Jerry was a senior planner in production planning for Quaker Oats from 1961 to 1978. He was then employed with Vigortone Agricultural Products as plant manager and later as general manager of eastern operations in Marion, Ohio, from 1978 to 1983. From 1984 to 2001, he was employed by the Iams Co. and held the positions of distribution manager in Philadelphia, Pa., western regional distribution manager in Aurora, Neb., manager of logistics at the corporate office in Dayton, Ohio, and retired as North American director of logistics in 2001.
Jerry was a member of the National Association of Accounts, the American Legion and the National Council of Logistics Managers. Jerry was area governor for Toastmasters International in Dayton and was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 5544 in Cedar Rapids.
