Eugene "Gene" Marlett, 93, passed away on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids. A private family service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for
Eugene Marlett, under the video tab starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Burial will be held at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. There will be a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the
Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be
allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields are required.
Gene is survived by his children, Jana Marlett
(David Zangerle) of Cedar Rapids, Tom Marlett of West Des Moines and Marc (Kristie) Marlett of Snohomish, Wash.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his parents; his brother, Alfred; and a daughter-in-law, Dee Marlett.
Gene was born on July 5, 1927, in Keokuk, the son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Dobbs) Marlett. Gene married the love of his life, Edna Mae Roberts, on Aug. 16, 1953, in Keokuk, Iowa. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After he returned home, he completed his law degree from the University of Iowa. After law school, he joined Farm Bureau Insurance where he retired after 35 years as vice president of Claims. He was active in the Iowa Defense Counsel Association. Gene enjoyed traveling with his wife Edna. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids and friends.
