Estey, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Estey, 89, of West Union, died April 9, 2010, at Stoney Brook Village. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Episcopal Church of the Saviour in Clermont (606 Mill St./U.S. Highway 18). Private family inurnment will be at a later date at the West Union Cemetery. Public visitation and viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union. Arrangements are with S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, Sumner.
She is survived by her son, Steven Estey and his wife, Paula, of Eugene, Ore., and their children, Elizabeth Barker and Riccara, and Steve's son, Jonathon, by a previous marriage; daughter, Kathryn Estey and her husband, Tom Hendricks, of Portland, Ore.; and a son, Robert Estey of Reno, Nev. She is also survived by an older brother, John Stevens of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Estey was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth; her husband, Elbert S. Estey; and her sister, Suzanne Gruenwald.
Elizabeth Estey was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Jan. 12, 1921, a daughter of John Edson and Florence Eschbach Stevens. Her family later moved to Marquette, Mich., where she graduated from Graveraet High School in 1938. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Iowa in 1942. She married Elbert S. “Slim” Estey in Muscatine, Iowa, in 1945 and lived in West Union for the majority of her life.
Mrs. Estey was a lifelong member of PEO and Episcopal Church of the Saviour in Clermont.
