Elvena Irene Hopp of West Branch, formerly of Conroy, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch at the age of 101.
Elvena was born Nov. 28, 1919, near Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Axel and Minnie (Klever) Fant. Elvena was united in marriage to Otto Carl Hopp Jr.
on May 4, 1937, at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Conroy. She was a homemaker, sold Avon, worked at the Woolen Mill and cooked at Colony Inn and Ox Yoke Inn. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She also sang in the Sweet Adelines. Elvena could play music by ear on the organ, piano, accordion, harmonica or guitar.
She is survived by her three children, Marlene Rich of Tiffin, Judy (Kent) Kaeser of Tipton and Harold (Kathy) Hopp of Shueyville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Plagmann of Cedar Rapids; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Hopp of Millersburg.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband; a son, Robert and Mary Lou Hopp; three brothers, Carl, Adolph and John Fant; and four sisters, Annie Heitman, Carrie Wandling, Ruth Imhoff and Mary Fant.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church.
