Elijah "Eli" Sarantakos
Elijah "Eli" Sarantakos, 20, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Cedar Rapids, lost his battle with depression on July 4, 2018. A celebration of Eli's life will be held in Cedar Rapids over Labor Day weekend. The family will release further details of the celebration as they are available.
Eli was born Oct. 5, 1997, in Cedar Rapids. Left to remember and miss him are his parents, John and Robin Foubert of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister, Jenna Sarantakos of Des Moines; and grandparents, Woody and Rea Burnett of Swansea, Ill., and Gayla Foubert of Fairfax. Eli also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, many friends and last, but certainly not least, his corgi, Lulu.
Eli was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vincent Foubert.
Although he left us far too early, Eli led a very full life. He played almost every sport imaginable and with great passion, but had a special love for soccer. He had a very clever, sharp wit. A self-described computer nerd, he hoped to find a profession that encompassed his fascination with computer technology. Eli graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and was attending college. He was employed by Creative Door and Millwork.
While we thank all the mental health professionals who helped Eli in his fight with depression, it is clear that further advances are needed in treatment options. As such the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
