Elgin, Shirley J.
Shirley J. Elgin, 81, of Center Point, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Alice United Methodist Church in Alice by Pastors Leo Andersen and Sheri Andersen. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Alice Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Ervin; children, Marilyn (George) Saul of Center Point, Steve (Sandi) Elgin of Urbana, Larry (Mary) Elgin of Cedar Rapids, Terry (Allen) Moore of Eagan, Minn., and Gerald (Tammy) Elgin of Waseca, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (LuAnn) Stewart; sisters-in-law, Shirley Stewart, Erma Carman and Darlene Elgin; brother-in-law, Tony Elgin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob (Jeanette) Elgin; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bruce Elgin; brother, Leland Stewart; grandson, Andrew Moore; brothers-in-law, Dave Carman and Lyle Elgin; and sister-in-law, Jeane Elgin.
Born Oct. 4, 1928, in Alice, Iowa, Shirley was the daughter of Leland and Lucille (Kirk) Stewart. On July 27, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Ervin Elgin at the Alice United Methodist Church.
Shirley was a very active member of the Alice United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, playing piano, attending church, music, gardening, and flowers, especially gladiolas. Her greatest love were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her husband of 63 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, Dystonia Medical Research Fund or the Alice United Methodist Church in Shirley's memory.
