Donna Mae Meeks, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 28, 2018, from a stroke surrounded by her family and friends at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donna is survived by her son, Keven Hendrickson, and wife, Jodi; two grandchildren, Brandon and Paige; and two nieces, Lisa Strand of Ankeny and Cindy Miller of Osceola. Donna also wished to recognize her friend, Jeri Hodson of Weslaco, Texas; and sister-in-law, Marlen Higdon of Urbandale, for all the fun they had together.
Donna was born Dec. 3, 1943, in Des Moines to Glen and Bernetta Higdon. Donna graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1962. In 1966, she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for Sta-Fed Computer Tax, then Iowa National Mutual. Donna retired from Rockwell Collins in 2000 after 15 years of service. She was united in marriage to Jim Meeks on March 29, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Meeks; and a brother, Dan Higdon. Also, her special friend, Don Shaw, with whom she enjoyed attending car club activities and going on many trips.
The greatest joy Donna had in life was spending time with her family and her many friends. Having a family was a big delight in Donna's life with wonderful grandchildren she thought she would never have. Donna enjoyed scrapbooking, making cards, sewing quilts for St. Luke's Hospice patients, traveling, and spending time with her Red Hat Society and Hawk-A-Model A Ford Club friends.
