Donald "Don" Wilson


Donald "Don" James Wilson, 71, of Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Lexington Estates Care Facility. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Don is survived by his children, Melissa (Richard) Wolfe, Heidi Ishman (and friend) and Brian Wilson; grandchildren, Nicole and Sarah Wolfe, Jayde Wilson and Kaylee, Hunter and Logan Ishman; brothers, Gary (Judy) Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Kenneth (Peggy) Wilson and Mark (Jen) Wilson; and sister, Glenda (Jim Boyland) Wilson. He
was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma (Connie) Wilson; grandchildren, Skylar Wolfe and Paige Ishman; sister, Gloria Cashen; and nephew, Christopher Wilson.
Don was born June 1, 1947, to James and Thelma (Connie) Wilson in Independence, Iowa. He worked for many years as a USDA meat inspector, with Agri-processors in Postville, Iowa, as his most recent employment. He also spent many years at Wilson Foods, which later became Farmstead Foods, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Don had a passion for hunting and fishing, as well as drawing, painting and taxidermy work. He loved to play Yahtzee and Scrabble. In lieu of flowers, a memorial benefit savings fund has been established in the name of Don Wilson at Veridian Credit Union.
We would like to extend a big thank-you to the staff members at Lexington Estates and Cedar Valley Hospice in Independence, Iowa, for the fabulous care you all provided for Dad in his final days.
