Donald Louis Trachta, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Emery Place in Robins following a long illness. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, at 2121 Bowling St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Burial will take place at Czech National Cemetery with military honors. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the chapel.
Donald was born July 26, 1925, in Marion, the son of Charles and Tillie (Sedlacek) Trachta. He attended Roosevelt High School. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the 97th Infantry during World War II from Sept. 24, 1943, until March 17, 1946, in Europe and Japan. He married Lorene E. Divoky on June 24, 1947, in Cedar Rapids.
Donald retired in 1987 from Wilson's/Farmstead after 45 years. He was a long-time member of Sharon United Methodist Church, served on the board for Wilson Credit Union for 30 years, and was active in the Jefferson Booster Club for more than 40 years. He was a loyal Cubs, Cyclone and Hawkeye fan. Family always came first in his life.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lorene; children, Sandra (Peter) Wierzbicki and Dennis (Lorna) Trachta; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jessica) Schultz, Janeen (Andrew) Van Etten and Danyel (Kirk) Kolek; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Riley Kolek, Bella Van Etten and Cooper Schultz; stepgrandsons, Paul (Angie) and Andrew Wierzbicki; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, JoLee and Symphony Wierzbicki.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leonard, Clarence, Lester and Elmer; and sister, Margaret Blessing.
