Donald E. Kuhn, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by Father Kenneth Glaser.
Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after
1 p.m. Monday at the church.
A vigil service begins at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Donald is survived by his wife, Ruth; four children, Jeanette (Thomas) Niccolai of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Patricia) of Austin, Texas, John (Debra) of Walford and Mary Jacobs of Elkader; two sisters, Sister Bonnie Ann Kuhn and Sister Marianne Kuhn; a brother, Stanley; and seven grandchildren, Jessica Deahl, Mark Olson, Jill Specht, Rachael Siegel, Jennifer Brown, Alan Kuhn and Kim Helmrich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Donald was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, to Edward and Viola (Shindelar) Kuhn. He served as an electrician's mate 3rd Class in the Navy in the Pacific.
Donald married Ruth Drilling on Aug. 18, 1948, in Cresco, Iowa. They farmed near Burr Oak, where he received the Winneshiek County Young Farmers Award.
In 1956, they moved to Cedar Rapids. Donald was president of the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Laymen organizations. Don volunteered many hours at Mercy Medical Center.
He enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states and parts of Europe.
Graveside military services will be conducted by American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727.
