Dennis James Sheridan, 73, of Lake Ozark, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach after a short illness.
Dennis was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the oldest child of Edmund and Beatrice (O'Rourke) Sheridan.
A kind and gentle soul, Dennis (Denny) was united in marriage for nearly 26 wonderful years to Susan (Suzy) Kiesey Haars, until his passing. A 1963 graduate of Regina High School in Iowa City, Denny proudly served in the National Guard and, following his honorable discharge, was employed for more than 34 years at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids as service parts manager at the time of his retirement.
Denny enjoyed his free time in the sunshine and fresh air fishing, playing golf and, in his earlier days, playing softball with his many friends. A skilled sportsman of humble nature, he was quite proud of achieving three holes in one during his time on the golf course. He had a deep passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. Extremely proud of his Irish heritage, Denny participated in the St. Patrick's parade for more than 35 years. His Irish eyes always were smiling.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Suzy; his daughters Kary Daily (husband Calvin) of Leander, Texas, and Sommer Sheridan (friend Thad) of Cedar Rapids, from a previous marriage to Roberta Elizabeth Taylor (Donaldson) of Cedar Rapids; stepson, Christopher Haars (wife Melissa) of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Shannon Bartz (husband George) of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Quinlan and Lochlan Daily; stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Haars, Ann Haars and Izabelle Bartz; brothers, Michael and Shawn Sheridan; his sisters, Kathleen Sheridan, Susan Byers (husband Craig), Maureen Colbert (husband Mike) and Eileen Matson (husband Mike); brother-in-law, Brad Kiesey (wife Deb); along with many relatives and many, many friends.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus, 1620 E Ave. NE.
