David F. Young, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away
on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at
St. Luke's Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit, after a two-week fight with cancer. Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people. The use of face masks or shields is required. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
David was born the second son to Charles E. Young and Virginia M (Hillmer) Young on Oct. 17, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. David graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966 and attended Marshalltown Community College, finishing up his education at Mercy University, and Wartburg Theological Seminary. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1968 and was discharged in 1971. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for many years.
David married Jeanne Feye in February 1968 and later divorced. From this marriage the had two daughters, Jennifer Larsen and Stephanie Larsen. David enjoyed playing golf, 16" softball, watching football and all sports.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer of Hiawatha and Stephanie of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Dianna Andersen of Chanhassen, Minn., and Darla (Tom) Godfrey of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Donna Young of Fairfax, Iowa. He is also survived by his ex-wife and good friend, Jeanne Feye; granddaughters, Shelbie Matthiessen and Shanna Matthiessen; great-grandson, Myles; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Donald Young; and grandparents, aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the 5th floor at St. Luke's Hospital and the nurses at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's for the care of David and his family.
