Dale R. Metz, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Saturday morning, Oct. 6, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after
9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dale is survived by his wife, Le Elyn; daughters, Catherine Metz and fiance Greg O'Connell, Cedar Rapids, and Elizabeth Wessels and husband Ryan, Atkins; grandchildren, Alexander, Mallory and Olivia Wessels; sister, Virginia Nordyke, Middle Amana; brother, William Metz, Middle Amana; and nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and parents-in-law.
Dale was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Middle Amana, the son of Carl and Lisette (Hahn) Metz. He married Le Elyn M. Hansen on June 17, 1972, at Immaculate Conception Church, Cedar Rapids.
Dale was employed as a farmer with the Amana Society until 1972 when he moved to Cedar Rapids. In the fall of 1972, he began working as a parts manager for Schwitter's Inc. until the business closed. Dale then worked for the Cedar Rapids Transit Department until his retirement in 2008.
Dale was an Army veteran and a member of American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727. He was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. Dale enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time outdoors.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mount Mercy University, All Saints Catholic Church or directed to Dale's family.
