Clarence Reierson was born May 24, 1931, in Fayette County near Clermont, Iowa, to Ole M. and Marie Ann (Martie) Reierson. He died Jan. 22, 2021, at the age of 89 years, 8 months, 29 days. Visitation: 5 to
7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point, Iowa. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26,
at the church, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment: Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa. Military honors: Walker American Legion Post 376. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point is assisting the family.
Clarence married Mavis Ethel Bachman on Dec. 19, 1954. Clarence and Mavis where blessed with two sons, Greg and Scott. Clarence grew up farming with his father and then was drafted September 1951 into the Army for the purpose of defending the people of Korea. He served as a member of Co. B 9th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action and was then discharged on July 4, 1953. Clarence was awarded the Purple Heart effective Aug. 14, 1952. Clarence was honored that he was able to go on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight on April 25, 2017. Clarence was a 60-year member of the Walker American Legion Post 376.
Clarence and Mavis moved around Northeast Iowa before settling in the Walker, Iowa, area where he farmed. He raised hogs until the late 1990's and cattle until 2019. He received numerous top producer awards for cattle and worked at Wilson Foods (Farmstead) for over 30 years. After Farmstead closed, he retired and farmed full-time until his death.
Clarence is survived by son, Greg (Gayle); grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelley), Jennifer (Kenney) Mims and Aaron (Karla) Schmidt; 11 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kylie, Karissa, Kaley, Kourtney, Gabriella, Kelby, Kaden, Jeremy, Olivia and Kinzlee. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald of Elgin and Robert (Mary) of Postville; and a sister, Darlene Abel of Belle, Mo Also surviving Clarence are many nieces and nephews, along with many longtime friends and extended family.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; his son, Scott; his parents; sister, Lydia Molokken; two half-brothers, Alphie Reierson and Orvin (Marion) Reierson; and two half-sisters, Bernice (Melvin) Vick and Gladys (Bert) Bruckner.
