Carol Lorraine (Green) Axtell, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at the Hospice Center at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service:
11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1363 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405, with visitation beginning at
9:30 a.m. Interment: 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Carol was born Dec. 24, 1935, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Kraft) Green, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. On May 3, 1958, she was married to Darrell Axtell in Council Bluffs. Carol worked for the Corps of Engineers in Nebraska and Kentucky, and also for the Social Security Administration, before retiring in 1989.
Carol was famous for her cooking, and a top priority of hers was ensuring people in need had a good meal to eat. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutherans for Life and the Good Samaritan's Club. Carol enjoyed playing bridge and being a part of the Meth-Wick community.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Axtell; two daughters, Laura Axtell and Susan (John) Schmidt; three grandsons, Mark Schmidt, John Schmidt and Michael Schmidt; and sister, Rose Mebane.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Charlotte Potter; and two brothers, Charles Green and Marvin Smith.
