Carl E. Carson, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Country View Senior Living in North Liberty. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Leroy Bradway will officiate. Private family inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Marcia (Randy) Loan of Cosgrove and Karen (Mike) Beer of West Des Moines; and a son, Dave (Philippa) of Bellevue, Wash. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ben (Nikki) Hines, Dylan Hines, Chelsea Hines, Ryan (Kelsey) Beer, Megan (Mitch) Beckert and Trevor and Grant Carson; two great-grandchildren, Oscar and Goldie Hines; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Carson of Troy Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene.
Carl was born March 31, 1934, in Troy Mills, the son of Willard and Kristine Schonberg Carson. He received both his undergraduate degree and master's from the University of Northern Iowa. Carl taught and was a principal in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for over 36 years, retiring in 1996.
Carl proudly served in the Army in Korea. He enjoyed time spent with his beloved family as well as flying his 1940 Tayorcraft airplane for over 50 years. Carl will be forever remembered as a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, teacher and friend.
