Billy Dean Smith
It is with great sadness that the family of Billy Dean Smith announces his passing after a four-year battle with cancer. Bill passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Funeral services and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
Bill was born in Bakersfield, Calif., on May 9, 1956, to Garland and Virginia Louise Smith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and served from July 27, 1976, until he was honorably discharged July 14, 1980.
Bill lived in Brownsville, Texas, for more than 20 years, where he worked at Fisher Price as a line operator, Parker & Co. as a warehouse manager and Burlington Express, also as a warehouse manager. He also was a licensed instructor for forklifting certification.
Bill was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who loved to cook on the grill and be with close friends. He loved to ride motorcycles.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sheila Ann Smith of Houston, Texas; brother, Charles (Cathy) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Gloria (Lee) Wolfram of Olympia, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill's family would like to thank the staff at Belle Plaine Specialty Care and Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids for the wonderful care he received during his last days.
