Betty Staub

Cedar Rapids

Betty Staub, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 14, 2018, surrounded by her family. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Rick) Fry, John (Barb) Staub, Mike (Patti) Staub, Dorothy (Brent Walters) Staub, Rob (Kim) Staub, Patty (Doran) Wilson and Joe Staub; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was born July 26, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, to Florence (Thompson) Wieneke. She was raised by her grandmother, Matilda Thompson. Betty met Norman Staub at the Temple Roller Skating Rink in Cedar Rapids. They were married on July 12, 1947, at St. Matthew Church, Cedar Rapids, just a month after graduating from Wilson High School.
Betty was a homemaker and helped Norman manage Lancer Lanes, Castle Lanes and May City Bowl. She served on the Cedar Rapids Women's Bowling Association Board and the Iowa State Bowling Proprietors Board. In 1993, Betty was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame.
The most important thing in Betty's life was her family. She enjoyed entertaining and watching activities of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Norman; parents; grandson, Richie; great-granddaughter, Alexis; and daughter-in-law, Patti.
