Betty Borgenson All Obituaries


Betty Ann (Hiltbrunner) Borgenson, 90, of Marion, Iowa, passed away at her home Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Per Betty's wishes, there will be no services except for a graveside service for the family at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born March 20, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to C. Lee and Clarice (Buchan) Hiltbrunner. She graduated from Franklin High School in January 1948. After graduation, she went to work as an assistant bookkeeper at Hiltbrunner Music for her father.
On Aug. 1, 1948, Betty married Carl E. Spicher Jr. They later divorced. She then worked for Dr. D.D. Olsen as an office manager until her marriage to James J. Borgenson on July 1, 1974. Betty then took over the accounting at Borgenson Sales Inc. After her husband's death in January 1989, she took over running the business until she closed it in December 2014.
Betty and Jim were both avid golfers and in their travels the golf clubs were the first thing packed. Betty belonged to Indian Creek Country Club in Marion, Iowa, for over 70 years and Del Tura Country Club in North Fort Myers, Fla., for over 30 years.
Betty also loved to play all kinds of cards with bridge and gin rummy being her favorites. She was a great daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
Survivors include three sons, Stephen (Marlene) Spicher of Punta Gordo, Fla., Craig (Paulette) Spicher of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Gary Spicher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters; one niece; two nephews; and several cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Curtis Lee Hiltbrunner II; and several other aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made in her name to the American Cancer Society, the Cedar Rapids Humane Society and/or Mercy Hospice.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of chaplains, nurses and doctors at Mercy Hospice, especially Mallory Schulte, and K-Lyn Thompson and Chaplains Bill Warhover and Louise White for the wonderful care they gave to Betty, as well as a special thanks to her granddaughter, Stephanie for her years of care and dedication she always showed toward Betty.
