Anogene Stary, 98, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died May 25, 2018, at the Meth-Wick Community.
Anogene was born May 23, 1920, in Mediapolis, Iowa, to Nellie and JC Faris. She graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1937 and from Coe College in 1941, cum laude, UWCH president, Crescent honor society, Tri Delta Society. She taught at Arlington, Iowa, High School and later substituted in Cedar Rapids.
She married her college fiance, Robert R. Stary, on June 20, 1945, upon his return from 39 months of overseas duty in World War II. Their only daughter, Joan, was born in 1947.
She was a 66-year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, choir member, women's association president, deacon, elder and chairwoman of the board of trustees. She was a 21-year member of Kingston Hills women's board of managers, 60-year member and president of PEO chapter J.I., served on the family service board, the Linn County food bank committee, as Church Women United secretary and SERV chairwoman.
In retirement, she enjoyed attending over 30 elderhostels with Bob, along with many U.S. and overseas travels, and their later years together in the Meth-Wick Community. She was a resident at Greenwood Terrace in the Meth-Wick Community since June 2002. She enjoyed singing with the praise chorus and serving as a chaplaincy friend.
Anogene is survived by many dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, of 62 years; her daughter, Joan; her parents; two brothers, Ralph and John; two sisters, an infant, Helen Louise, and Dorothy Jackson; and one son-in-law, Keith Jacobus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Kingston Hill Home or the Meth-Wick Foundation.
A family memorial service is planned for a later date.
