Albert, George L.
George L. Albert, 81, of Independence, died Wednesday morning, April 14, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to services Saturday at the funeral home.
George was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Brandon, Iowa, the son of John and Cora E. (Loveless) Albert. He attended Brandon Schools. He was employed with Bert Gray Implement and Whitehead Produce Hauling before becoming employed with the Wapsi Creamery on Sept. 10, 1944. He became the head cheese maker in 1985 and retired on March 1, 1991. He was united in marriage to Janice Marie Zimmer on June 20, 1950, in Independence, where the couple made their home.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; two children, Kathy (Rick) Krebsbach of Spencer and Ann Marie Schnepf of Independence; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Geiger of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kirk Albert; five sisters, Marie Gill, Edna Schneeman, Dorothy Walker, Grace Behrends and Frances Donels; and four brothers, Milo Albert, Raymond Albert, Kenneth Albert and LaVerne Albert.
