A Wisconsin man was killed and a Vinton man was hurt in a two-vehicle crash just north of Waterloo Wednesday afternoon.
According to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, Joseph C. Pink, 71, of Madison, Wis., was westbound on county road C57, attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 63, at at 3:53 p.m. Wednesday when his car was struck broadside by a southbound pickup driven by Garth H. Beatty, 70, of Vinton.
Pink's vehicle landed in a ditch on the west side of Highway 63, just south of the intersection. Beatty's pickup, which was pulling a trailer, entered the same ditch, flipping over before coming to rest on its top. The trailer, which became separated from the hitch, partially landed on top of the pickup.
Iowa State Patrol officers said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. Pink was taken by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, where he died from his injuries.
Beatty was taken by ambulance to Allen Hospital in Waterloo, where he was not listed as a patient Thursday morning.
