Two boats collide on Mississippi River; one person killed
One person has died after two boats collided along the Mississippi River.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday night in Dubuque County, near the 16th Street boat ramp.
Dubuque Police Lt. Steve Olson said several people were involved in the crash. Other than the fatality, he said no one else was seriously injured.
Both boats have been recovered, and everyone has been accounted for, officials said.
Dubuque police are handing the investigation over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR will continue working to determine what caused the accident.
Police are not releasing the name of the boater who was killed, pending notification of family.
