CEDAR RAPIDS - If you're looking for tickets to hear Gold Star father Khizr Khan speak on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, you'll have to be one of the first 200 people in line.
Officials organizing the event, set from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the African American Museum of Iowa, 55 12th Ave. SE, said tickets are $20 each and are only available at the door.
The event is a community awareness and fundraising dinner for the Council of American-Islamic Relations Iowa Chapter. Miriam Amer, the chapter's executive director, confirmed the tickets are not available in advance and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Khan is best known for delivering a speech during the 2016 Democratic National Convention in which he criticized then-presidential nominee Donald Trump and offered to lend him his copy of the U.S. Constitution.
The father of fallen U.S. Army Capt. Humayan Khan, who was killed while serving in Iraq, Khizr Khan resurfaced in the news this week after he canceled a speech in Canada saying he had been notified his travel privileges were 'under review.” He has declined requests for clarification from several news outlets.
Khan also plans to speak at a Council of American-Islamic Relations event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Muslim Community Organization, 1117 42nd St. in Des Moines. That event free to the public.
