CEDAR RAPIDS - Three young men were arrested after police said the bouncer at a bar was choked and then a police officer was kicked in the face.
Police responded around 11:50 p.m. Saturday to an assault in progress at Fieldhouse, 2730 Edgewood Rd. SW. They found the bouncer, Zachary Donahue, 30, of Cedar Rapids, with injuries to his face.
Donahue told police he had asked a group of people to quiet down a couple times, and then asked them to leave when they caused more problems. Donahue was escorting a man to the door when he was assaulted.
Police said Michael R. Davis, 22, and Robert A. Fisher, Jr., 23, both of Cedar Rapids, pushed Donahue against a wall, and then punched him when he fell to the ground. Davis also put Donahue into a choke hold during the fight, according to the police report.
When police arrived and arrested Fisher, he began threatening officers. Once handcuffed and in the back of a patrol car, police said Fisher kicked at the window. Officer Casey Hoeger reported he opened the car door to restrain Fisher and was kicked in the face.
Fisher was charged with assault causing bodily injury, assault on a peace officer and public intoxication. Davis was charged with assault causing bodily injury and public intoxication. Additionally, police said David I. Isbell, 21, of Cedar Rapids, was also involved in the assault. He was cited for public intoxication and providing false identification information.
Donahue suffered several cuts to his face and went by private vehicle to St. Luke's Hospital. Officer Hoeger was not seriously hurt.
All three men arrested were taken to the Linn County Jail. They were no longer in custody Monday morning.
